Don Broco ‘Manchester Super Reds No.1 Fan’ Single Review

For Fans Of : Enter Shikari & Lower Than Atlantis

Don Broco is back on the scene, and they’re not messing around. The new single ‘Manchester Super Reds No.1 Fan’ takes the band in a new, industrial direction and it’s the best thing that could have happened to them. After listening to their 2018 album ‘Technology‘, I was definitely eager to see where Don Broco could take their sound next.

All the great elements in their last album were there. The pattern of songs usually stayed within the boundaries of very promising, genre bending intros, though the songs often derailed from that great, unexplored territory into a generic sounding & distorted rock chorus.

With the new track out for us to hear, the band sounds aggressive and punchy but the best thing, ultimately, is that the song manages to keep a great and consistent theme. The song gets introduced with its metallic percussion and a wailing synth line, so the fact that the chorus now sounds a lot more realised, is doing the band a lot of good. What’s even better is that whilst the track does sound a lot more consistent, the band still manages to do what they do best. Genre-bending. There are Rage Against The Machine, rap verses intertwined with the more modern sounding alt-rock, glitched vocals and even softer singing.

Overall, ‘Manchester Super Reds No.1 Fan’ is a step in the right direction, and all we can do from here is be on the lookout for new material, because what these guys come up with next, could be grand.
